Admission reporting windows are short. Assembling documents during one is a needless risk, and every year candidates lose allotted seats because a certificate was not ready. The full list is known in advance, so there is no reason to be caught out.
The full list
- Tenth standard mark sheet
- Twelfth standard mark sheet
- Transfer certificate from the school last attended
- Conduct certificate
- Community certificate
- Nativity certificate
- Aadhaar card
- Passport size photographs, several
- Migration certificate, where applicable
- Entrance score card, where applicable
- Degree mark sheets and provisional or degree certificate, for postgraduate admission
- First graduate certificate, where you are claiming that status
The ones that take longest
Community, nativity and first graduate certificates are issued by revenue authorities and depend on their processing times, not yours. These are the ones to apply for early, well before results are published. Migration certificates come from the previous board or university and can also be slow.
Mark sheets and transfer certificates come from your school and are usually quick, but only once results are out.
Practical handling
- Apply for revenue certificates as soon as you know you will need them, before results.
- Keep originals in one folder and never split the set.
- Make at least five self-attested photocopy sets. You will need more than you expect.
- Scan everything and keep a copy you can reach from your phone.
- Carry originals for verification and submit self-attested copies where copies are asked for.
A caution about originals
Original certificates are produced for verification. If you withdraw an admission within the permitted period, your originals are returned to you. An institution should not retain your originals to prevent you leaving. If that happens it is a matter for the grievance mechanism.
